CCCUK 2017 Annual General Meeting held in London
On June 20th, the Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CCCUK) held its 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in London. The event convened members from finance & insurance, technological manufacturing, energy products, transportation & shipping, media & publication, governmental organizations, properties & construction, and trade & business. More than 160 representatives from around 100 companies participated in the event. The AGM approved “the Articles of Association of the China Chamber of Commerce in the UK 2017” and elected the second Board of Directors.

Mr. JIN Xu, the honorary chairman of CCCUK, the Minister Counsellor of the Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, participated in the meeting and delivered a speech. Mr. Jin identified the increasingly critical role of CCCUK due to the growing number of Chinese businesses investing in the UK. For consolidating the “Golden Era” of Sino-British relations, he also pointed out that CCCUK should leverage the unique role of UK market and has a long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility to provide better service to the members. CCCUK should take actions to improve the national image of China by actively promoting “the Belt and Road” strategy, enhancing communication and advancing practical cooperation between China and UK.

Mr. SUN Yu, the new chairman of the CCCUK, the CEO of the Bank of China (UK) Limited, summarized the achievements of the CCCUK in 2016 and put forward the ideas of its future development based on the analysis of the UK’s economic and social condition across the decades. He reviewed the past accomplishments and paved the way for a long-term development of the CCCUK. He believed CCCUK could become a strong and unique trading association between China and the UK with a formal organizational structure and management system.

The first meeting of the second Board of Directors was held after the AGM. Several topics were under discussion such as organizational structure and annual review. The meeting also proposed, elected and approved the vice president and secretary general of the second Board of Directors. The meeting also approved the admission of new members.

China Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CCCUK) was established on July 23rd, 2001(formerly recognised as the China Enterprises Association in Britain). It is a non-profit organization mainly comprised of Chinese enterprises in Britain and Chinese economics and trade associations, which aims at representing and protecting the interests of Chinese enterprises in Britain and offering services to them. Since its establishment of 16 years, it has quickly developed into an important force in representing organizations’ interests and promoting external activities under the support of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, the guidance of commercial office and joint efforts of all members. At present, there are over 170 members enrolled in CCCUK from many business fields including finance & insurance, technological manufacturing, energy products, transportation & shipping, media & publication, governmental organizations, properties & construction, and trade & businesses.
